
Jack B. Estey
Jack B. Estey 1922 - 2007 MIRAMICHI, NB - Jack Burton Estey, husband of Lucy Estey, of Water Street (Loggieville) Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at the age of 85. Born in Fredericton, on April 18, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Mary E. (McCloskey) Estey. He was an active member of Knox United Church, Miramichi. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving as a Navigator with the R.C.A.F. and was discharged with the rank of Flight Lt. Jack started his career in business as a clerk with the Royal Bank of Canada; moving on to Diamond Construction Ltd., where he held the positions of paymaster and purchasing agent. He was appointed General Manager of A&R Loggie Co. Ltd. and Monarch Cold Storage Co., (later Eagle Fisheries Ltd.), becoming the owner shortly thereafter. When he sold Eagle Fisheries to National Sea Products of Halifax, he was asked to stay on, eventually assuming the position of Executive Vice President of the company now known as High Liner Foods. He was a member of both the Economic Council of Canada and the Fisheries Price Support Board. He was Past President of the Fisheries Council of Canada; and both the N.B. and N.S. Fish Packers Associations. He was a longtime Director of L. E. Shaw Ltd., and in 1975 founded the first cable company in the Miramichi region. He was a Past President and Life Member of the Miramichi Golf & Country Club; Past President of the Chatham Curling Club; a member of Miramichi Lodge #18 F&AM; Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi; the Miramichi Shrine Club and served as a Member of the Board of the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation. He is survived by his wife, the former Lucy Betts; three daughters, Carol Estey (John Boudreau) , Joyce LeBelle (Peter), all of Miramichi and Judy Estey (John Mosher), of Lunenburg, N.S.; four grandchildren, Tobi, Kelli, Mark and Erin; four great grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Spencer and Cooper; as well as several nieces & a nephew. He was predeceased by two sisters, Pat (Toodie) Whalen and Dorothy Annin; and one brother, Gerald Estey. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Thursday from 7-9 pm and Friday, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held from Knox United Church, on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 2 pm. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Miramichi Regional Hospital, the Extra Mural Nursing Program, or any charity of the donors' choice, would be appreciated by the family.
