STAIRS, Donald (Don) Graham – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Don, 87, of Halifax on Sunday, February 28, 2010. Don was the son of the late Gordon and Patty Stairs. Although born in Halifax he was raised in Wolfville, NS where Don attended local schools and Acadia University. He was a King Scout and an accomplished athlete. He was a member of the Canadian Army during the Second World War and he served in Canada and overseas. Don will be remembered for his love of family, attending family activities, fishing, sports, superb cooking, his dogs and his wonderful artistic talent. He often spoke of happy memories of summers at the cottage in Shediac and jiving with Babs. A very proud moment for all of us in recent years occurred when Don was inducted into Acadia University’s Hockey Honour Roll. He was a long time member of the Maritime Commercial Travellers Association and he co-founded and coached in the Rockingham Minor Hockey League. Don was a former member of the Mayflower Curling Club, he belonged to the Kiwanis Clubs of Truro and Lancaster (Saint John) as well as having been a senior member of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. Don will be greatly missed by his family who were the sunshine in his life. He is survived and greatly loved by his devoted wife of 60 years, Babs (McFetrick), sons Graham (Joni), Steve (Janice) and daughter, Kim (Ralph), as well as grandchildren (Ryan, Tara, Devon, Jocelyn and Matthew) and step-grandchildren (Emily, Rebecca and Gill). The family wishes to thank the VON and the doctors and nurses of the Neurological floor (7.3) and the Intermediate Care unit for their kindness and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place.
By Don’s request there will be no visitation. A tribute to Don’s life will be held Saturday, March 6 (10 am) at Calvin Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
