Barney Bree

At Kings County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, Barney Bree of Montague, P.E.I., of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Born in Liverpool, England, the son of Sydney and Marie Bree (deceased). Husband of 46 years to his much-loved wife, Naomi (Durley) Bree. Sadly missed by his two daughters, Alexandra (at home) and Heather (Leighton Davies) of Woodstock, Ontario. Very proud 'Dapa' of Kelbe and Kassidy Davies. Also missed by his dear sister, Marilyn of Wrexham, Wales, UK, and by his adored nieces and nephews, Emma and Andrew, Andy and Sharon, Phillip and Judith, all of Wales, UK, and Peter and Bernice, California. Brother-in-law of John Durley and Mary-Lou of Ottawa. Uncle of Carolyn and Darryl of B.C., Tara and Darren of Montreal. He will be missed by several great-nieces and nephews.
His family is very proud of his accomplishments in his life. Former director of the Culinary Institute of Canada (Holland College), Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Hotel and Restaurant Management Program at Confederation College, in Thunder Bay, and Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Barney was very active in competitive swimming in P.E.I. and in Ontario and was past president of Swim P.E.I. and a director of Swimming/Natation Canada (SNC) for 18 years. He held his Masters Official levels in swimming, and officiated at Canada Games, Olympic Trials, and Ontario and Maritime competitions. He was also involved in Sport Parachuting and was President of CSPA (Canadian Sport Parachuting Association) in the 1960's.
At Barney's request his body has been sent to the Faculty of Medicine of Dalhousie University (Halifax) for medical research. Resting at Southern Kings & Queens Funeral Home, Murray River, for visitation on Sunday, March 3, from 2-4 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church in Montague on Monday, March 4, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Southern Kings, Box 893, Montague, PE, C0A 1R0, or St. George's Anglican Church, Box 677, Montague, PE, C0A 1R0 would be gratefully accepted.
