Paton With great sadness, the family of Lydia Paton wish to announce her passing at home after a brief illness on December 28, 2008. The funeral will be held at WJ Jones & Sons at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Lydia was born "Edith Lydia Fenell" on March 8, 1925 in Cadillac, SK to Albert and Mary (Wise) Fenell. She grew up on a farm outside Admiral, SK with her parents, her brother Dave, and sisters Lolo and Pauline. Lydia started her 38 years of teaching in 1943 at Pinto Creek, SK and continued on to teach in country schools in Epinard (Frenchville - Admiral) and Lakenheath, SK. In 1948, she moved to Trail, BC, and returned to Saskatchewan to teach at Jack Creek School. She then attended Teachers' College (Normal School) in Moose Jaw in 1954. After receiving her teaching certificate, Lydia resumed teaching in Glenbain, (Silverstone) McLean, and Lake Valley, SK. During this time, while teaching and getting further education and training, she raised three children who have always been very proud of her accomplishments and the goals which she achieved. In 1971, Lydia received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Regina. She completed her teaching career at Lindale School where she taught for 22 years. After her first retirement, Lydia returned to work as the librarian at Lindale for nine years - finally retiring on April 13, 1995, at which time the library in Lindale School was named after her. Some of Lydia's favorite pastimes were gardening, reading, and singing with her sister, Lolo. Lydia was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Mary, son Gerry, sister Pauline Scansen, brother-in-law Wallace Scansen, nephew Leslie Scansen, and grand-daughter-in-law Jacqueline Paton. She will always be lovingly remembered by son Delmer (Karen) - Moose Jaw, and their children Darin (Denise), Taylor and Kelsey - Coaldale, AB and Jason (Mayleen), Kayla - Calgary, AB. Daughter Lynn (Mike) Chernoff - Moose Jaw and their children Calder - Sydney, Australia, and Janelle (Mike), Caelyn - Moose Jaw. Daughter-in-law Carol - Moose Jaw and her children Chad (Kari), Alex - Regina, SK, and Tana (Scott), Dawson - Moose Jaw, SK. Lydia is also survived by her brother Dave Fenell and sister Lolo Carignan, and many nieces and nephews and special long-time friends - Phyllis and Wilfred Beitel. A Celebration of Lydia's Life will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Sing no sad songs for me when I am gone, Rather remember happy times we've known, The pleasures shared, the simple joy of friends and loved ones, gathered together in common bond of music, laughter & companionship. When all the rounds are played, the last chord struck, Of all the things that make life worthwhile, these treasured moments play the sweetest part.
