Nancy Benn

Suddenly, by stroke, at DECRH, in the early hours of January 8th, 2011, aged 77 years. Survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert L. Benn of Fredericton. Sons Peter (Jennie), of Toronto; David (Jill), of Fredericton; and Andrew (Csilla) of Saint Nazaire les Eymes, France. Sisters Margaret "Peggy" Stephenson, of Grand Bay Westfield; and Claire (Duncan) Fidler, of London, Ontario; Grandchildren Charles, of Fredericton; and Anna, of Saint Nazaire les Eymes; nieces and nephews. Born in Saint John to Alfred E Stephenson & Margaret Jenks (Gilmour), Nancy graduated from Saint John High School, and in 1953, achieved her certificate at the Applied Arts School at Mount Allison University, where she met her future husband. They lived briefly in Montreal, before moving to Fredericton to raise their family on George Street and on Bristol Street. Nancy was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Church, Fredericton Y's Menettes, United Church Women, St. Paul's Quilters Guild. She was an ardent supporter of her husband's career as an artist, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and the Mount Allison Alumni Association. Nancy collected many friends throughout her lifetime. Her family is grateful for their warmth and comfort today. She was predeceased by her parents and one sister, Helen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13th, from 7 to 9 pm at Windsor Court Retirement Residence, 10 Barton Crescent, Fredericton, NB. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul's United Church on Friday, January 14th, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Dr. Peter Short will officiate. Interment will be in Miramichi at a later date. For those who wish to honour Nancy's memory, her family suggests donations to Mount Allison University Alumni Association or St. Paul's United Church Restoration Fund.
