Passed away on November 18th, 2011 in St. Johns, Newfoundland at the age of 81. He is survived by his sons, Siddhartha Mookerjea, Dr. Sourayan Mookerjea, his daughter-in-law, Dr. Gail Faurschou and his grandson, Jivan Michael Mookerjea, and his granddaughters Avani Clare Mookerjea and Tajrin Yazmin Mookerjea Faurschou. He had been living with courage, grace and fortitude at Chancellor Park Nursing Home for the past three years after the death of his wife of 53 years, Dr. Chitra Mookerjea, in 2009. Sailen was a distinguished scientist and Professor Emeritus at the Department of Biochemistry at Memorial University. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd, from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 4-7 p.m. Friday. Cremation to follow.
