ATKINSON, Marie Agnes – 81, Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born February 20, 1931 in Grosses Coques, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late J. Philippe and M. Marguerite “Maggie” (Gaudet) LeBlanc. Agnes was a retired school teacher, having taught at Quinan, as well as having done some substitute teaching at Wedgeport. She had also cooked on the Tusket Islands for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 155, Wedgeport. She enjoyed camping with her husband, quilting, working in her flower gardens, playing cribbage and coin and stamp collecting. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Owen Atkinson, as well as by their children, Brad (Susan), Wedgeport; Philip (Réjeanne) and Royden (Thea), both of Plymouth; a loving granddaughter, Brittany, and a sister, Yvette (Agno) Thibault, Concession. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Gregory, as well as by brothers, J. Richard Gaudet and Paul LeBlanc. Visitation took place on Thursday from 7-9, with prayers at 8:30, both at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held Friday, September 14 at 11 a.m. from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Agnes’ memory may be made to Saint Michael’s Parish Cemetery Fund.
