Bertha Jean (Lantz) (Sheehy) Barker, 85, of Mount Denson, Hants Co., N.S., passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, after a battle with cancer that spanned almost 50 years. Bertha was born in Falmouth, on October 2, 1924 and was married to her first husband, the late Walter Vernon Sheehy (1957) of Northfield, N.S. and wife of her second husband, the late Claude Bernard “Bob” Barker (1977) of St. Croix, N.S. She was also predeceased by a brother, Frederick Carl “Fred” Lantz (1976) of Falmouth, and by her daughter-in-law, Sharon Anne (Omar) Sheehy (1984) of St. Stephen, N.B. Bertha is survived by her son, Vernon Phillip (Teresa) Sheehy, Mount Denson; grandmother of, Jocelyn Heather Sheehy (Rick), Mount Uniacke; and Dennis Walter Sheehy, Halifax. Bertha is also survived by a sister-in-law, Frances B. Lantz, Falmouth; niece Shirley Jean Lantz, Bridgewater; and a nephew, Edward C. “Eddie” Lantz, Calgary; also a foster brother, Robert L. Johnson, Mount Denson. Bertha was a resident of Mount Denson for 63 years. She will be missed greatly, but her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., P.O. Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation, funeral service, or flowers by request. Burial will take place at a later date in Mount Denson Cemetery.
