TRENTON – James Charles “Jim” McIntyre, of 10th St., Trenton, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital New Glasgow. Born February 14, 1921, in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late William “Cody” and Margaret (Thompson) McIntyre. Jim served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 32 years retiring to Trenton in 1972. He was employed with Michelin Canada (Granton), retiring in 1985. He was a member of First United Church, Trenton. During his residence in Trenton, Jim served on the Trenton School Board, was a volunteer with Trenton Minor Hockey, the Flashing Blades Figure Skating Club and the Centennial Days Festival. He was an active member of the Michelin Retirees Club. He had a passion for bowling and enjoyed playing golf. He was a loyal fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs. Jim was a dedicated father and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Freda (Ewart); son, Michael (Wanda), Pierrefonds, Que.; daughters, Maureen (Kevin) Campbell, Eastern Passage, NS; Beverley (Hans) DeBeer, Etobico, Ont.; sister, Peggy McDonald, London, Ont.; sister-in-law, Jill McIntyre, Bridgeville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant son, James W.F. in Germany; daughter, Donna Cassidy, Winnipeg; brother, William “Bill”; George; sisters: Margarete in infancy; Evelyn Poirier; Edith Stevens; Jessie Ferguson; Ann MacCooey. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday in the First United Church, Trenton, with Rev. Debra Orton officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or the Pictou County VON.
