Pictou / New Glasgow - Anthony James "Tony" Savage, 89 Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, formerly of Company Street, New Glasgow, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, in the Aberdeen Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Mt. William on July 5, 1918, he was a son of the late John and Annie (Almontis) Savage. He was a veteran of WWII having served with the H.M.C.S. Stadacona and H.M.C.S. Cornwallis. In 1950 he married Marjorie Eagles and resided in New Glasgow until taking up residence at the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou. He worked construction most of his life having been employed by Tidewater Construction and Satellite Construction. He was foreman of the Truckers Union during the building of the Harvey A. Veniot Causeway. After his retirement, he sold fish throughout Northern Nova Scotia and enjoyed the social contact with his customers. He was an avid outdoorsman. Tony loved to sing and even after taking up residence at Shiretown, he entertained there with a few solos. He was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #34, New Glasgow. Tony will be sadly missed by his children, Debbie (Bill) MacLellan, Pictou; Ken (Gwen), MacLellan's Brook; grandchildren, Jennifer (Larry Crowell) MacLellan, Kingston; Angela MacLellan, Beaverbank; step-grandsons, Robbie Ross, Saint John; Christopher Rogers, New Glasgow; great-grandsons, Kaiden, Chase and Porter Crowell, and chosen great-grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob Conway. Tony is also survived by his brother, Joe (Beattie), Westville Road. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Eagles); brothers, Adam and John; and sisters, Della MacNeil, Anne Barrs and Margaret Megeney. Visitations will be held today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #34, New Glasgow will conduct a service at 6:30 today at the Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Jim Webber- Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery.
