Arend "Eric" Brinkman

WESTVILLE - Arend "Eric" Brinkman, 82, Spring Garden Road, Westville, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2007, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Holland, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lukas Brinkman. Eric grew up in Holland and moved to Canada in the early 1950s. While living in Ontario, he worked for the Peel Board of Education. He later moved to Nova Scotia taking residence in Westville and was employed at Thompson's Roofing and Siding until retirement. He was a member of the Scotia Lodge #11, I.O.O.F.; the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28, Stellarton, and the Westville Heritage Club. He enjoyed bowling and socializing especially at the Old Time Dances. He is survived by daughters, Jennifer, Toronto; and Linda Niven (Alex), Westville; Donna Norman, Scarborough; grandchildren, David (Angela) Niven, Westville, Jason Straker and Jesse Nodle, both of Scarborough; and locally by great-grandchildren, Corey and Ashley Niven. He is also survived by a brother, Gerry (Rea), Blenheim, Ont., and his very close friend, Pearl MacLean, Westville. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Rose (Kempt). Visitations will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Saturday from the Salvation Army Church, Westville, with Captains Jim and Debbie Sinclair officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. The Scotia Lodge #11, I.O.O.F., will conduct a service on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Family flowers only, donations in Eric's memory may be made to the Westville Salvation Army or to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
