Bernard Palmer Stone

Bernard Palmer Stone - 95, long time former resident of Roosevelt Avenue and the last six years at Parkland Estates,Truro, passed away October 27, 2008, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Farnham, Quebec, he was a son of the late Joseph and Jenny (Palmer) Stone and also the last surviving member of his family. He began his career selling shoe components in Montreal, moving to Pictou in 1947, where he represented different shoe companies, travelling throughout Atlantic Canada until his retirement in 1974. He was an avid sports enthusiast excelling in badminton, baseball and curling. In his later years, he was an armchair sports fan, rooting especially for the New York Yankees. He was a Mason and a life member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association and was always a gentleman. He is survived by sons, B. Brent (Sharon), New Glasgow; Mark (Connie), Truro; grandsons, Travis, Tyler (Melissa), both of Halifax, Mitchell, Truro. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Jane (Smith) and sister, Evelyn May Stone. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29th from 7 to 9 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro; private graveside memorial service in Bible Hill Cemetery at a later date with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the Colchester Regional Hospital Building Fund or a charity of choice.
