Carrie Irene Muir, 91, of Taunton Street, Wrentham, formerly of North Attleboro and Attleboro, died on Friday, December 19, 2008, two days prior to her 92nd birthday, at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham where she had been a resident for the last five years. She was the wife of the late Albert G. Muir to whom she was married in 1944 and who entered into eternal rest on his birthday, November 21, 1965. Born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Canada, on December 21, 1916, she was one of 16 children born to the late William and Bessie H. (Davidson) Taylor. Raised and educated in Stellarton, she resided in her native country for many years prior to immigrating to the United States and settling in Attleboro before moving to North Attleboro and later Wrentham. A devoted and dedicated homemaker, she was a woman who took pride in her appearance and always acted demur and gracious. Mrs. Muir was employed as a nurse’s aide at the former Tucker’s Nursing Home on South Main Street in Attleboro and later worked for many years at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro prior to her retirement at the age of 65. Christmastime was one of her favourite times of the year and she would spend days decorating her home for the holiday season. A talented seamstress, she enjoyed baking, quilting, crocheting, knitting and reading. Her feet would gracefully glide as she enjoyed ballroom and polka dancing. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, affectionately known as “Old Town”, on Old Post Road in North Attleboro for many years. Although a resident of the United States for decades, she never lost touch with her heritage and often returned with great anticipation to her native land to visit the many family members and friends who had remained. She was the mother of George W. Muir and his wife, Brenda J. (Emerson) Muir, North Attleboro; Brenda J. Trotter, North Attleboro; and Brenton G. Muir and his wife, Janice L. (Baetz), Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Canada; six grandchildren: Brenda Lee Pouliot and her husband, Kevin Pouliot, North Attleboro; Kenneth Christopher Trotter, Jr. and his wife, Brenda Ann Trotter, Bushnell, Florida; Robert A. Trotter and his wife, Lisa (Laferriere) Trotter, North Attleboro; Cheryl Lynn Smith and her husband, Lyle Smith, North Attleboro; Carrie F. Shurr and her husband, Michael Shurr, Ontario, Canada, and Cathy J. Weaver and her husband, Robert Weaver, Ontario, Canada; six great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Brenton Taylor, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; two sisters: Zela Fairhurst, Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Ethel Gordon, Acushnet and numerous generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 12 siblings.
