PICTOU LANDING ROAD – Chelbert Sawyer Fisher, 81, of Pictou Landing Road, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Springhill, NS, he was a son of the late Sebert and Elsie (Chell) Fisher. Chelbert was a resident of Pictou Landing since 1969. He worked in Toronto for a number of years as a crane operator and later did construction work on the Canso Causeway. He was a Veteran of WWII having served overseas and was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29, Trenton. Surviving are sisters: Dorothy Fisher, New Glasgow; Doris Cummings, Cape Breton; Pauline Chapman, New Glasgow; Elsie Freeman, Pictou Landing; Greta Hatt, Gairloch; and Betty Fisher, Pictou Landing; brothers, Harold, Ohio, USA; and Gordon, Bridgewater; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Germaine Groulx. Cremation to take place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at a later date from the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. Donations in memory of Chelbert may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital or to the Pictou County Branch of the VON.
