LYONS BROOK - Darrell Keith Heighton, 76, of Lyons Brook, Pictou County, passed away May 17, 2007, in Halifax. Born in Lyons Brook, he was the son of the late Alfred and Greta (Jollota) Heighton. Darrell was employed as Materials Manager with Pictou Industries Ltd. A great community worker and supporter, he contributed much to the Lyons Brook United Church with involvement as Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, Board of Stewards, and for a time Clerk of Session. He was also an active member, and Past Noble Grand of Eastern Star I.O.O.F. Lodge, No. 1, Pictou, and also served on the Board at the Maritime Odd Fellows Home, Pictou. He was also a lifelong worker with the Liberal Party. He is survived by his wife, Janet (MacFarlane), Lyons Brook; sister, Faye (Robert) Williams, Ottawa, her son, Kirk Williams; and several cousins. Visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday from the Lyons Brook United Church, with Mary MacDermid officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Lyons Brook Church Hall. Donations in his memory may be made to the Lyons Brook United Church.
