NEW GLASGOW – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donald K. Greene, age 70, of North Ave., New Glasgow, at his home on January 12th, 2009. Don was born on a snowy December 15th, 1938, to James and Grampian (Grant) Greene, Laggan, Pictou County, and was a resident of New Glasgow for 34 years. Don enjoyed spending time with his two adoring grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face, the outdoors at his camp in Laggan, on his four-wheeler or in his boat on a peaceful lake with the fish biting. Don worked at Maritime Steel from 1974 until his retirement eight years ago. Don was a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Don will be sadly missed by son, Donnie, Dartmouth; daughter, Lori (Paul) Dean, Durham; granddaughter, Taylor Dean; grandson, Brent Dean; brothers: Charlie (Barb), Toronto; Gerry (Donna), New Glasgow; Chester (Lydia), Kelowna; sisters, Evelyn Dobson, Linacy; Marjorie Garneau, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his wife of almost 48 years, Claire (Pettipas); parents, James and Grampian Greene; brothers: George, Russell and Henry; and sisters, Jessie Cameron and Barb Harris. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Cremation to follow. Burial of ashes will be in the Kenzieville Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Don may be made to the Kenzieville Cemetery, the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow or to a charity of your choice.
