FRENCH RIVER – Elizabeth Mary Browning, 84, of the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, formerly of French River, Pictou Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2009, in the Home, surrounded by her family. Born in Blue Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Willie Hugh and Margaret (Wright) Fraser. Elizabeth attended Greenvale School and later Acadia University. She taught at Meiklefield School. Elizabeth lived in French River all her married life, where she worked the family farm with her late husband, Gordon. She was a dedicated member of the former French River Presbyterian Church, where she served as treasurer, and was an enthusiastic promoter of Sunday and Bible School programs. She was a founding member of the N.S. Women’s Institute of French River/Telford, a member of the Patricia Rose AMS and served for many years on the French River Cemetery Association. She was a dedicated community member spearheading summer youth recreation programs and rural beautification endeavours. Elizabeth’s church community and youth activities were a source of personal strength. Her greatest pride and joy was her family and their accomplishments. Surviving are daughters, Shirley (Wayne) Fraser, Linacy; Sheila (Dale) Gouthro, Halifax; sons, David, Truro; Hugh (Heather), French River; grandchildren, Tena, Adele, Michael, Dana, Kendall, Ian, Brad, Oliver, Erin; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Riley, Nicholas, Ryan, Jacob, Conner, Emilie, Liam, and nephew, Terry (Diane) MacCulloch. She was predeceased by her husband, C.Gordon Browning and her sister, Scott MacCulloch. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdoch and Rev. Richard Sand officiating. Interment will be at French River Cemetery following a reception in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to French River Cemetery. www.pkmacdonald.ca
