HILLSIDE – Elmer Carmichael, age 77, of Hillside, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. He was born in New Glasgow on March 4, 1931. For a number of years, he worked for Reid’s Grocery, Hillside and then with his partner, Allister MacDonald, they bought the business, operating under the name Carmichael and MacDonald. Later, he was employed by the Municipality of Pictou County Public Works from where he retired. He was well known throughout the county as a house painter and for operating a boarding house. He was an avid card player and enjoyed travelling. He is survived by the MacDonald family: Allister (Coleen); Michael (Samantha), Hayley, Dominic, Caden; Mary-Beth (Stefan) Atzema. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A public graveside committal service for family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hillside Cemetery with Rev. Debra Orton officiating. Reception to follow in the Hillside Hall. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hillside Hall Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton.
