WINNIFRED SMITH
SMITH, WINNIFRED The death of Winnifred "Winnie" Smith of Fredericton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on March 5, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Harry T. and Blanche Jennie (Long) Palmer and wife of the late Owen M. Smith. Winnie was a very active member of her community in many ways since her youth. She was an Honorary Life Member of the New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Party with 75 years of service and she was Past President of the New Brunswick Women's Progressive Conservative Association. She was a member of Christ Church Parish Church where she was active in the ACW, a member of Eastern Star Lodge #37, a member of the Flanders L.O.B.A. # 423 of Rusagonis, a member of the I.O.D.E., a member of the Fredericton North Progressive Conservative Association and former member of the Fredericton South Progressive Conservative Association. Winnie had served as member of the Board of Director's of the New Brunswick Power Commission. Winnie was loved and respected by all her family. She will be very fondly remembered. She is survived by her son, Lyle W. Smith (Shirley) of Fredericton; four grandchildren, Debbie Lyons, Michael Smith (Monique) and Mitchell Owen Smith (Mary Lou) all of Fredericton and Tim Smith (Jennie) of Ottawa; nine great-grandchildren, Heather Lyons, Jennifer Smith, Lyle Smith, Aprille Smith, Holly Smith and Jeffrey Owen Smith all of Fredericton, Kristin Smith, Vanessa Smith and Andrew Smith of Ottawa; one sister, Alice Mersereau of London, ON and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Owen; grandson, Andrew Dean Smith and greatgrandson, Christopher Lyons. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Saturday, March 8th, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Christ Church Parish Church, Westmorland Street, Fredericton, on Sunday, March 9th, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Ven. John Sharpe will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery.
