GEORGE RICHARD PATTERSON

PATTERSON, GEORGE RICHARD George Richard Patterson of Waggoners Lane, Fredericton, died on March 24, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. The son of Everett and Barbara Patterson, he was born in Fredericton on September 26, 1938. He graduated from Fredericton High School, the New Brunswick Teachers College, and the University of New Brunswick. He taught briefly in Debec and then for 28 years at Oromocto High School where he taught English. He retired in 1994. He enjoyed following the stock market, reading and travel, the company of his many friends, poetry and other creative writing, and good natured humour, whether written or spoken. He is survived by his parents who live at 371 Parkhurst Drive; three brothers: Stephen (Linda), Rodney (Sharyn), and Christopher, all of Fredericton; his uncle, Roland Lake; nieces and nephews. The family is very grateful to the doctors and staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Dr. Srinivasan, Ven. John Sharpe and Rev. Elaine Hamilton of Christ Church (Parish) Church, Dalton London and the other generous hospital volunteers, the many wonderful teachers and former teachers of Oromocto High School who were very much part of George's extended family, and the many other friends of the family whose kind words and deeds meant much to George and those closest to him. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church on Westmorland Street at a future date to be announced. Funeral arrangements are in the hands of McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home. No flowers by request. Those who wish may donate to a charity of their choice.
