CLARA ANNA C. Anna PERSAUD
PERSAUD, CLARA ANNA C. Anna Persaud of Fredericton passed away April 15, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Millville on January 1, 1941, she was a daughter of Ruth (Palmer) MacDonald and the late Ralph MacDonald. Anna was a graduate of the Millville Superior High School and the secretarial course at Fredericton Business College. She began work with the Bank of Nova Scotia and later was the private secretary to the president of the University of New Brunswick. She then moved to Ottawa where she worked with the Department of External Affairs. During her tenure with External Affairs she was posted to the Canadian Embassy in Canberra, Australia. On her return to Canada she returned to New Brunswick and was employed with the provincial government, her last position being with the Auditor General's Office. Before her husband's death, Anna and Sam traveled extensively to Europe, Russia, Scandinavian countries and Central America. For many years they spent their winters in Ajijiac, Mexico on Lake Capella. Over the years on their many sojourns Anna and Sam were blessed to make many friends and acquaintances and following Sam's death, Anna maintained the friendships until her death. Anna is survived by her mother of Fredericton; two sisters, Sonia MacDonald, Fredericton and Avis Allen (Jim), Greenville, South Carolina; a brother, Charles MacDonald (Jeannine), Spartanberg, South Carolina; a stepson, Errol Persaud (Debbie), Moncton; two step-grandsons, Vijay and Sanjay Persaud; a sister-in-law, Susan Berryman; four nieces, Christine, Jodi, Sara and Keri; a grand nephew, Jacob; two grand nieces, Ella and Mya; aunts and uncles, Avis McDaid, Anna and Alfie Reid, Jim and Muriel MacDonald and Glenna Chute. She was predeceased by her father in 1999 and her husband, Samuel Persaud in 1996. Although there will be no visiting hours, friends are welcome to attend a funeral service to be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1045 St. Mary's Street, Fredericton on Monday, April 21, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Claude Gilks officiating. The interment will be at the Millville Cemetery with the time and date to be announced later. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Anna, the family has suggested the Scleroderma Association of Canada or a charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to express their thanks to caregivers Lystra Persaud, Rediat Kiros and Melissa Hansen with special appreciation to Marianne Spilman who gave of herself unconditionally during the past seven months of Anna's illness.
