WILLIAM KEVIN STRAIN MORRISSEY

MORRISSEY, WILLIAM KEVIN STRAIN Passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, June 10th, 2003, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Born on June 17, 1934, in Regina, Saskatchewan, he was the youngest son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Strain) Morrissey and loving husband to the late Mary Frances (MacNeil) Morrissey. A graduate of Saint Francis Xavier University (1957), he dedicated 25 of his 30 year career in public service to the Province of New Brunswick where he served as Deputy Minister in four portfolios including the Department of Health. His lifelong public and private conviction to serve his fellow citizens - especially the less fortunate - lead him to champion a number of public service initiatives. In the mid 1970's, he helped pioneer the vision and establishment of the NB Extra Mural Hospital along with a handful of special colleagues, many who became dear friends. True to his Irish roots, he embraced life through a most unique spirit, rich humor and daring wit as regularly witnessed by family, many friends and even a few rogues and scholars. He is survived by sons Michael Morrissey of Halifax, NS; Stephen Morrissey of Fredericton, NB; daughter Michele and son-in-law, Arthur Cronin, of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren Raymund and Mary Frances Cronin; brothers Father Emmett Morrissey; and Roy Morrissey (Loretta) both of Regina, SK; two sisters, Sister Roberta Morrissey of Regina, SK; and Genevieve Pardy (Stan) of Cloverdale, BC. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church on Monday, June 16, 2003, at 12:00 noon with Monsr. Brian Sheehan, Rev. Monty Peters and Rev. Emmett Morrissey officiating. There will be no visitation by request. Donations or other expressions of support may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital or to the NB Extra-Mural Hospital. McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. www.mcadamsfh.com
