George Roderick'Rod' McCara, 74 of Loch Katrine, Antigonish County formerly of Brookside Avenue, New Glasgow, died peacefully on August 9, 2008, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, with his wife and family by his side. He was a son of the late Edmund and Annie (Hislop) MacCara. Rod managed Halliday’s in New Glasgow for most of his career but was most satisfied when he was self-employed, using his entrepreneurial skills to design and install kitchen cabinets. His knowledge, guidance and compassion will be sadly missed by his wife, Jeanne, (Aitchison) whom he spent 53 wonderful years with, his daughter, Heather, formerly of New Glasgow; sons, Scott (Sue-Anne), Vancouver; Stephen (Nancy), Truro; grandchildren: Christopher and Chelsea Coady, Vancouver; Alicia and Brianna MacCara, Truro; Cole and Jaimi Jeanne MacCara, Vancouver; his great-grandchild Haleigh Coady, Stellarton; and a sister, Bessie, Sutherland (Peter), Scotsburn. He was predeceased by a son, Brian. It was Rod’s wish to be cremated without visitation. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Kings United Church in Loch Katrine on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Keith Selwyn-Smith officiating. A reception will follow the service at the family home in Loch Katrine. If people so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rod may be made to the Palliative Care Units of St. Martha’s and Aberdeen Hospitals or to a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank all of Rod’s supportive friends, the wonderful staff at St. Martha’s, Aberdeen and QE11 for their care and compassion. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
