DOUGHERTY, ALLAN JAMES The death of Allan James Dougherty of Taymouth, husband of Jean (Stewart) Dougherty, occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Coal Creek, he was the son of the late Herbert and Bertha (Brown) Dougherty. Allan was formerly employed as a crane operator with York Structural Steel, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Alexandria Lodge # 33 F & A.M., a member of the United Ostomy Association, and a member of the Taymouth United Church. An avid sports fan, Allan enjoyed watching baseball, golf, and especially hockey. He was an annual supporter of the Hip Hip Horray walk, as well. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Allan is survived by a son, Gordon Dougherty of Taymouth; a daughter, Sandra English (Gary) of Taymouth; grandchildren Conor and Meghan Dougherty of Stanley, and Allison Hovey (Sarah) of Fredericton; stepgrandchildren Terri Paul (Shawn) of Fredericton and Jody English (Tina) of Grand Falls; great grandchildren Brogan and Casey McKillop-Hovey, Shawn, Kaylie, and Nakooma Paul, and Caleb, Josh, and Megan English; and several nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by a brother, Everett; and by a sister, Elsie McLean. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM from the Taymouth United Church. Rev. Hazel Morris-Harvey will officiate. Interment will follow in the Taymouth Community Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the Taymouth Community Centre immediately following the graveside service. For those who wish, remembrances to the Nashwaak Villa Helping Hands, the Food Bank, the Taymouth Community Centre, or to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
