HARRY H.D. (PAPA) COCHRANE

COCHRANE, HARRY H.D. (PAPA) The passing of Harry H. D. Cochrane (Papa) of Fredericton occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, August 14, 2003. Born in Marysville, N.B., on February 29, 1920, he was a son of the late Donald T. and Hazel D. (Saunders) Cochrane. Harry was a retired Civil Servant having worked with the NB Power Commission and the Provincial Government as Deputy Minister of Transportation over a 35 year span. He was affiliated with the Wesleyan Church. Harry was a member of the R.C.A.F. Association #252 and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 15 Marysville. He had a keen interest in sports especially tennis and golf. He was President of the Canadian Motor Vehicle Administrators and International President of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators. Survived by two daughters, Debby Symonds and husband Conard of Fredericton and Rev. Bonnie Stairs and husband Rev. Reid Stairs of Dartmouth, N.S.; a brother Theodore (Ted) Cochrane and wife Shirley of Ottawa; five grandchildren, Heidi Hoyt (Shane), Rev. Jeremiah Stairs (Simone), Joshua Symonds (Kylie), Tarka Stairs and Charity Nelson (Robert); six great grandchildren, Riley Anne Hoyt, Symon Hoyt, Ashriel Nelson, Jahleel Stairs, Bobby Nelson and Myah Stairs; nieces, nephews and cousins and a cherished aunt, Hattie (Shorty) Shanks. Also survived by two very special friends, Thelma Pieroway and Bev White and his special buddy Rufus. To be reunited in heaven with Grammie Ruby Faye (Stafford) Cochrane. Also predeceased by his parents and a brother Ernest (Bud) Cochrane. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 17, 2003 at Olivet Wesleyan Church, 4 Coronation Court, Marysville from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the church on Monday, August 18, 2003 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Tom Ward officiating assisted by Rev. Jeremiah Stairs who will deliver the funeral message. Grandson Joshua Symonds will deliver the eulogy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Horncastle, Peter Morehouse, Glen Kitchen, Frank (Junior) Hatheway, Buddy Pond, Ed McKeown and Ab MacPherson. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Olivet Wesleyan Church or Faith Community Church.
