STEPHEN MERLE BANCROFT

BANCROFT, STEPHEN MERLE Stephen Merle Bancroft, 83, Black River Lake, King's County, NS, passed away peacefully August 25, 2003, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Merle and Edna (Payne) Bancroft of Wolfville, NS. A graduate of Acadia University with a BSc degree, specializing in Geology with Engineering, Stephen subsequently attained a civil engineering degree at Nova Scotia Technical College. He had a long and distinguished service career in the Canadian Army that began in World War II, with assignments in British Columbia, Yukon Territory, Ontario and New Brunswick. During that time he also served overseas with the United Nations in Palestine. Upon retirement with the rank of Major from the Canadian Forces in 1967, Stephen was employed by the federal Department of Labour in Fredericton, NB, until his second retirement in 1981. Much of his life was devoted to his family. Surviving are his son Bob, and wife Alice (Pomquet, NS); son Bill, and wife Penny (New Glasgow, NS), grandsons Timothy and Graeme; and son Douglas and wife Elaine, (Minto, NB), grandsons Brittain, Robert, and David. Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret (Harvey), and brother Keith. As per Stephen's wishes, there will no funeral or memorial service. A private family interment will take place at Lower Horton Cemetery, Hortonville, NS.
