NEW GLASGOW/SALT SPRINGS - Harold MacKay, 87 years, New Glasgow, formerly of Salt Springs, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2007, in the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou. Born in Mill Brook, he was a son of the late Ira and Georgina (Watters) MacKay. He was employed at different occupations in his life from lumbering to operating a meat store, and in the last few years, was a salesman for Electrolux and as well managed the office of Heritage Memorials until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity United Church, an affiliate member of St. Luke's United Church, Salt Springs, and had served on the Board of Stewards and was an Elder in both churches. He was also a founding member of the West River Fire Dept. He belonged to the 55+ Club and enjoyed playing darts and cards. He was a past member of Y'sMen's Club. He is survived by his wife and best friend for over 62 years, Ada (Gunn); children, Corinne MacDonald (Carmen), Little Harbour; Jim MacKay (Karen), Musquodoboit, Judy MacConnell (Wendell), New Glasgow; grandchildren: Jennifer McCloskey (Jeff), Georgetown, Ont., Rebecca Smith (John), Linacy, Allison MacConnell, Mass., Erica MacConnell, New Glasgow, Cory MacKay (Jill), Truro; four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Eileen MacKenzie, Porters Lake; brothers, George (Bunny), Westville; Tom, Coalburn; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Donalda Hogg. Visitations will be held from 2 to 4 p.m and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday from Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Diaconal Minister Lori Crocker officiating. Burial will be in Stillman Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou.
