VELMA JEAN SHANNON

SHANNON, VELMA JEAN Velma J. Shannon (1921-2003) passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2003, surrounded by her loving family. Velma was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She taught school for forty-eight years, retiring from Oromocto High School in 1986. She was a teacher who left her mark - not on the report cards - but on the hearts of many students. Velma was predeceased by her husband Ken, her daughters, Joan and Norma, her mother Nettie (Libby) Brophy, her father George Libby and her sisters Ethel, Bernice and Stella. She is survived by two sons, Douglas (Rita), Cornwall, ON; Everett (Norma), Boiestown, NB; and three daughters, Bette Baines (Peter), Fredericton, NB; Connie Campbell (Allen) Plaster Rock, NB; and Jackie Devine (Byron), Douglas, NB; one sister, Marie Wilcox, Fredericton, NB; and a chosen sister, Eva Atyeo, Maquapit Lake, NB. 17 loving grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins complete Velma's life-circle of love. Resting at River Valley Funeral Services, 50 Avonlea Court, Fredericton, where visitation will be held Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Marysville United Baptist Church, 150 Cowperthwaite Street, Marysville, NB on Thursday, September 25, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Dubois officiating, assisted by Rev. Laurie Fenerty. Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
