Pictou Landing First Nation – Helen Marie Nicholas, 65, of Pictou Landing First Nation, passed away July 16, 2008 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Angeline Paul. She had been a resident of Pictou Landing since 2003 prior to which she had lived in Truro. She was a member of our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church and was very involved in the community and willing to help anyone. Surviving are her children: Mary Ellen (Tony) MacLeod, Truro; Herman Francis, Pictou; Lucie Francis, Pictou Landing; David (Barbara) Francis, Eskasoni; Cyrus Francis, Shubenacadie; Georgina Francis, Ottawa; Terry Nicholas, Pictou Landing; grandchildren: Joseph, Mary, Tara, Roger, Christopher, Jenny, Willamene, Cheyla, Kobe, Jonathon, Mathieu, Lynanne, Vincent “Basa”, Kiona; great-grandchildren: Cameron, Alyassa, and Lacy May Helen; sisters, Rose Marie Nevin, Shubenacadie; Leona Phillips, Boston; and brother, Vincent Phillips, Boston. She was predeceased by first husband, Herman Francis; second husband, Norman Nicholas, daughter, Charlene; grandson, Joseph; and brother, Andrew. Her remains will rest in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation after 5 p.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
