NEW GLASGOW - Howland Delma Atwood, of New Glasgow, and formerly of Greenhill, Pictou County, died peacefully at home in the presence of his family on May 22, 2007. Born on October 26, 1927, in Clark's Harbour a son of the late Delma Roy and Addie Atwood of Clark's Harbour, Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. Awarded the prestigious Frankin Medal from Boston English High School in 1945. Graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard University. Surviving are sons: Christopher (Dolores), Ross (Lynn) and Del (Gillian); and his grandchildren: James, John, Andrew, Peter, Paul and Mark. Howland was predeceased by his parents; his wife, the former Evangeline Mae (Ross); a sister Minnie, a brother, William. His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King Street, New Glasgow for visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. today. There will be no funeral by request. A public graveside committal service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Oakvale Cemetery, Clark's Harbour, Shelburne County, with Pastor Shawn Hatfield and Father Pat O'Meara officiating.
