Salt Springs/ Westville – Huntley Reid Best – Age 91, of Six Mile Brook Road, Saltsprings formerly from North Main Street, Westville passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born on East Cape, Magdalen Islands, on 2 Aug. 1916, he was a son of Eldred and Grace (Clarke) Best. Huntley moved to Nova Scotia when he was eight years old with his parents and siblings. He worked at Maritime Steel, New Glasgow Foundry, the Allan Shaft and also worked in the Springhill Mines. Later in life he and his wife moved to Ontario where he worked installing doors and windows until he moved back to Nova Scotia where he built a house in Saltsprings and remained there the rest of his life. Huntley was also a master craftsman and built many pieces of furniture which his friends and family will cherish forever. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend, everyone loved and respected him. He is survived by his sweetheart, Gloria (MacNeil) DeYoung; three children, daughter, Winnie MacKay (Everette), granddaughter, Mary; son Carl (Mary), grandchildren: Carla, Huntley, Amanda, Alex, Ben, Francis and Paul; daughter, Harriet Yorke- Baudoux (Fraser), grandchildren, Susan, Angie and Cory. He was very proud of all his 14 great-grandchildren but especially proud to have another child carry his name (Reid Malcolm MacLean). Huntley is also survived by sisters Lillian Coady (Henry) Abercrombie and Stella Keating (Melvin) Moncton NB. Predeceased by wife, Mary Alice (DeYoung) in 1990; sisters, Opal, Pearl, Doris; brothers: Keith, Ralph, Arthur, Beverly, Donald, Gordon and son-in-law, Brian Yorke. The family is deeply grateful for the loving care and dedication that was given to our father over the past year by Gloria and his granddaughter Angie. He always came first with them and he loved them dearly. At Huntley’s request, no flowers. A service to celebrate his life will be held at The Church of the Holy Name, North Main Street, Westville at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, for those who wish to attend. Services are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville
