RITA M. BARRY
BARRY, RITA M. The death of Rita Marie (Feeney) Barry, of York Point, Saint John, and Brandy Point Road, Grand Bay - Westfield, widow of the late Honorable J. Paul Barry, QC occurred on November 13, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, USA, she was the daughter of the late John L. (Jack) and Marie T. (Ready) Feeney. Mrs. Barry graduated from St. Vincent's Girls' High School in 1934 and from the University of New Brunswick in 1938, and was often recognized for her academic achievements. She taught at St. Peter's Boys' School up to the time of her marriage. "Mrs. Barry was a founding member of Birthright, and an avid supporter of St. Vincent's Alumnae and its Scholarship Fund. At the time of her death, she was a member of Real Women, Right to Life, Birthright, St. Vincent's Alumnae and the Catholic Women's League." She was a former member of the Union Club and the Westfield Golf and Country Club. Mrs. Barry is survived four daughters: Mary E. Reeves (Philip), of Regina; Norah M. Mallory (Michael), of Fredericton; Martha T. Zed (Peter, QC), of Saint John; and Moira A. Adams (John) of Aberdeen, Scotland; four sons: John P. Barry, QC (Charlene) and David G. Barry, QC (Jane) of Saint John; Dr. Thomas J. Barry (Dr. Carolyn) of New Maryland, and Dr. Michael H. Barry (Dr. Susan) of Rothesay; three sisters: Mary E. Stevens of London, Ontario; Margaret A. Barrett of Vancouver, BC; and Dr. Moira C. Bassetti of Seattle, Washington, USA; 38 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barry was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her only brother, Lieut. John J. Feeney, RCN Fleet Air Arm. Resting at a former home of the Ready family, Castle Funeral Home, Fallsview, 309 Lancaster Avenue West (506-634-1701) where visiting will be held on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m., and on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon. Please use the Chapel entrance to the right when visiting. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row West at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Joseph's Cemetery on Westmorland Road. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Barry's family would appreciate donations to the Paul and Rita Barry Bursary Fund for attendance at the University of New Brunswick Saint John.
