DOUGLAS WAUGH THORNE
THORNE, DOUGLAS WAUGH The death of Douglas Waugh Thorne of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the York Manor Nursing Home, Fredericton, NB, on Friday, November 28th, 2003. Born in Havelock, NB, he was the son of the late Brewer and Sarah Thorne; the husband of the late Doreen (Clarke) Thorne. Doug graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, NS. For 43 years, he worked as an Inspector with the Seed Potato Certification Service of Agriculture Canada in Victoria and Carleton Counties, retiring from the Fredericton office in 1981. Doug was involved in the community, a former member of the Florenceville Volunteer Fire Department, Boy Scout Leader, and Director of the BB & F Power Commission and was a coach for local sports teams. He was an active member of the church and served as a Deacon at the Brunswick Street Baptist Church for many years. Survived by three sons, Gary D, (Karen) of Ilderton, ON, David W. (Susan) of Port Colborne, ON and Brian C. (Elaine) of Coldbrook, NS; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Chris, Aaron, Matthew, Bradley, Amy, Lisa, Kimberly, Tracey; six great-grandchildren, Justin, Samantha, Emma, Chloe, Hannah and Spencer; one brother, Gordon Thorne (Shirley) of Fredericton, several nephews and nieces and cousins. Predeceased by his wife Doreen, parents, one sister, Joyce Lawrence and an infant great-grandson Caleb McCann. Visitation will be held at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home on Monday, December 1st, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003 at 11:00 am. Rev. Terry Atkinson officiating. assisted by Rev. Ralph Irving. Interment will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Havelock, NB.
