WELLAND – James Donald “Don” Curley of Welland, suddenly and peacefully, following surgery, with family by his bedside, at the Welland Hospital, on Monday, May 5, 2008, in his 82nd year. Beloved father of Loretta DiBartolomeo (Fior) of Port Colborne, Doane Curley (Dana), Cindy Forster (Brian), Bonnie Kajan (Rodney) and Jim Curley (Patty), all of Welland, Dawn Breault (Claude) of Stevensville and Colleen Evans (Bryan) of Cook’s Mills. Loving grandfather of Lisa Wszolek, Lori Curran, Jodi DiBartolomeo, Justin Curley, Paula Lord, Rhonda Lisch, April Durco, Casey Evans and Marley Kajan. Great-grandfather of Tiffany and Holly Wszolek; Ayden Durco; Ashlee Curley; Alexandria Lord; Sarah and Jake Lisch. Also survived by his sister Marie Gillikin (Charles) of Morehead City, N.C., his best friend Adam Yuzwak and Margaret Curley, mother of his children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Loretta Brown, brothers: Emmett, Russell, Gordon, Alfred, Ned and Edward and his grandson, Phillip. Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Mr. Curley served Canada during the Second World War in 1944 overseas in France with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders of the Canadian Army. Following the war he moved to Welland where he was employed at Atlas Steels, the Union Carbide and Stelco Page Hersey. In 1968 he moved to the United States working as a journeyman millwright for dredging and construction firms in the southern states. He returned to Welland in 2007. Mr. Curley was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Welland and was a past member of the colour party of Branch #4. By Mr. Curley’s request, funeral arrangements are private for family with interment to take place in Nova Scotia. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, 383 Morningstar Avenue, Welland, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 11th. If desired, donations to the Intensive Care Unit of the Welland Hospital would be deeply appreciated, with cards available at the H. L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland, who are in care of the funeral arrangements.
