MARGARET KATHLEEN (KAY) FEENEY
FEENEY, MARGARET KATHLEEN (KAY) February 3, 2004 - Kay was born January 19, 1910 to Steven Thomas McDonough and Susan Gertrude Rowan in Burton, NB. The family moved to Lincoln in 1918. She graduated from the Provincial Normal School in 1927 and taught in one-room schoolhouses for several years before her marriage to John Alfred Feeney in 1937. Being an expert seamstress, Kay was employed by several dress shops in the City. She retired from Vey's, on Queen Street, in the 1976. A fun loving, charismatic woman, small in stature, Kay enjoyed organizing church dinners, dances and fundraisers. She was proud of her Irish roots. During the 1950's she was a member of the cast for several St. Patrick's Day plays. Kay was an active member of St. Dunstan's Church, Catholic Women's League and Liberal Party. In 1998 the Diocese of Saint John honored her with the Bishop Dollard Medal instituted to recognize those who have contributed to the life of the Church as measured in terms of service which has been long standing, significant and faith inspired. Predeceased by sisters, Marion Feeney (Harold) and Eileen McDonough as well as her parents and husband Alfred, she is survived by her son Dr. Donald (Doc) Feeney (Nancy Ross), daughter Gertrude Ann (Dave Dillon) of Fredericton; grandchildren Lisa Doucet of Burlington, ON, Lori Carruthers (Steven) of Victoria, BC, Shane Feeney (Lenora) of London, UK and Leslie Williams (Richard) of Norwich, VT, and great-granddaughter Hanna Elizabeth Feeney of London, UK. Kay will be greatly missed by her friends and the staff of the Atrium at York Manor where she had been a resident since September 1999. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, February 5th, 2004 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Friday, February 6th, 2004 at 12:00 noon. Rev. John Jennings will officiate. Interment will be in the Hermitage Cemetery at a later date.
