RIVERTON, NS - Jennie Mary "Honey" Vacheresse, age 96, passed away at the Aberdeen Hospital, July 18, 2007. She had been a resident of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, since 1996. Born in New Glasgow, in 1911, she was a daughter of the late Leonard T. and Lillian L. (Smith) Flaherty. Jennie lived her early life in New Glasgow and moved to Riverton with her parents when she was in her twenties. In 1955 she married her beloved husband, Adrian Vacheresse, a former Conductor with the CNR, who passed away in 1980. Jennie was also predeceased by her loving sister and best friend, Elsie (Flaherty) Stewart on August 18, 2005. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Jennie was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. Throughout her life she had a passion for reading and as a young woman Jennie wrote many stories and poems. She also loved to sing and play the piano and organ. Jennie's kindness, generosity, sharp mind and compassion for others endeared her to family and friends. She cared deeply for her pets and faithfully supported the SPCA for many years. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered. A heartfelt thanks is extended to the many dedicated caregivers at the Valley View Villa. Jennie is survived by her niece, Margaret (Doug) Goodyear, Riverton; grandnieces, Lorraine (Paul) MacLean, Riverton; Jennifer (Brian) Hennick, Riverton; great-grandnieces, Brandi and Britney Hennick, and Brooke MacLean and great-grandnephew, Cole MacLean. Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 20. Funeral Mass will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007 from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton Road with Father Charles Cameron officiating assisted by Rev. Charles McPherson. Burial will take place in the Parish Cemetery following the church service. Donations in memory of Jennie may be made to the SPCA or to a charity of choice.
