June 3, 1940 - August 14, 2007 Westville - John "Jack" Robert Keating, age 67, Highfield Street, Westville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 14, 2007. He was a beloved husband and best friend of Heather Lynn (Condon), and eldest son of Agnes Keating, Trenton, and the late Xavier Keating. John is also survived by seven siblings: Gary (Hugette), Brandon, Man.; Terrance "Doodah", Union Centre; Michael, Westville; Patricia Swales (David), Westville; Gerald (Joanne), New Glasgow; Carol Laffin (Reg), Trenton; Judy Suirane (Mike), Pictou; sister-in-law Jacqueline, Westville. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Dorothy Condon, Western Shore; step-son Greg, Eastern Passage; sister-in-law, Susan Condon, Beaverbank; brothers-in-law, Gerry Condon (Linda), Timberlea; Rick Condon (Ann), Pictou. He was predeceased by brother, Sandy, and six infant siblings; father-in-law, John F. "Jack" Condon; and brother-in-law, Curtis Forgeron. John was retired from D.N.D. Ship Repair Unit as a job planner. After five years in the Air Force as an Electronics Technician, he worked as Communications Officer on the D.E.W. Line in Resolution Island. An avid musician, singer, cook, fisherman, and gardener, Jack was also strong advocate for those with no voice. He was on the board of directors of Farrell Hall, The Boys and Girls Club, and Lake City Industries, all in Dartmouth. He was a recipient of the Eric Spicer Memorial Award for the Halifax/Dartmouth Jaycees in 1980, for his outstanding efforts in community improvement. John was an honourable man who always put "Principles before Personalities." Visitations will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Royal Canadian Legion Br#35 Westville will conduct a service at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. His funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Friday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville, with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery.
