John David Macpherson

John David MacPherson, age 91, of Westville/ Truro, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the Northumberland Veterans Unit in Pictou. Born in Westville, he was the son of the late David and Mabel (Weatherbee) MacPherson. John served in World War II as a member of the 22nd Field Ambulance Medical Corp- 3rd Division. He was one of the many Canadians who landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Upon his return to Nova Scotia, he was employed with Canadian National Railway until his retirement. John always enjoyed being with his family, friends and his dogs, Dooby and Sandy. He is survived by his only daughter, Evelyn Crouse (Paul), Stewiacke; two grandchildren, Heidi and Jonathan; sister-in-law, Eleanor Morrell, Westville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wif,e Margaret Evelyn (MacGregor); sister, Ruth Reid; and brother, Clyde. Visitations will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Eagles Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery, Westville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northumberland Veterans Bus Fund or the Parkinson Foundation.
