TRENTON – John James “Jack” Ryan, age 79, of the Glen Haven Manor and formerly of Duke St, Trenton, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008 in the Manor. Born in Trenton, he was a son of the late Herbert and Grace (Leithead) Ryan. He was a former construction worker and he retired from the CNR. He played softball with the Trenton Scotians and was a member of the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame. He is survived by his son, James (Eleanor), Hinton, Alberta; sister, Jean (Bill) Ainslie, British Columbia; brother, Baxter (Elsie), Trenton; chosen brother, Jim MacNeil. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Dorothea Janet MacDougall. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Graveside committal service 11 a.m. Friday in Hillside Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Glen Haven Manor.
