RIVERTON – John James “Jim” Murray, age 80, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family by his side. Born in Avondale on November 13, 1927, he was the son of the late John Fred and Ella Beatrice Murray. He lived in Pictou and Rocklin before moving to the Valley View Villa. He was a lumberman and worked in sawmills, Clairtone, Shaw Bricks, and was a caretaker at the Fisheries Pool in Pictou. He liked gardening and cared for a small garden at the Valley View Villa. He enjoyed the activities there, especially the singing and musical entertainment. He is survived by his brother Grant (Mary), Thorburn; and sister Mae Brown, Pictou; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Jean (MacLean); and his sisters, Charlotte “Peg” Robinson and Jean Murray. Visitations will be held Saturday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Andrew MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Murray Point Cemetery, Merigomish. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to Valley View Villa or to a charity of one’s choice.
