Truro/Trenton – John Michael DeCoste, age 56, of The Mira, Truro, and formerly of Trenton and Merigomish, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007, in the Mira surrounded by family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Rosanne (Stewart) DeCoste of Glen Haven Manor and the late George Michael DeCoste. He was a former employee of Trenton Works. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Maple Leafs fan. He was a former Scout Leader and a member of 4H, Crime Stoppers, Youth Groups and Saint John Ambulance. Surviving besides his mother are his wife, the former Norma MacGillivray; sisters: Eleanor (Larry Murray); Marie MacLellan, both of New Glasgow; Cathy Crowell, Saskatchewan; brothers, Ivan (Ann); Allan (Janet), both of Merigomish; several nieces and nephews and extended family, Jonathan and Diane. He was predeceased by brother Joseph Francis. Visitation today 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral mass 11 a.m. Friday from Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetic Association.
