John "Jock" Forsyth

NEW GLASGOW – John W. “Jock” Forsyth, 90, New Glasgow, formerly of Thorburn, passed away, Saturday, October 27, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in Mount Vernon, Scotland, he was a son of the late William and Barbara (Jardine) Forsyth. He was an adherent of Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn. He worked in the McBain Mine (25 years) and as a driver for the New Glasgow Fire Department. Jock was a member of the Thorburn Fire Department and the last surviving member of the Thorburn Mohawks 1948 baseball team. He was very proud to have been inducted into the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame in August, 2006. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Margaret Catherine “Kay” (Cameron); daughters, Betty Clyburn, New Glasgow; Lynn (Doug) Cooley, Thorburn; Janice Butler, New Glasgow; sons, Allan (Ferne), Plymouth; Stuart “Bob” (Karen), Calgary, Alta.; Scott (Edith), New Glasgow; sister, Margaret (George) Robson, Pine Tree; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Douglas; son-in-law, Wayne Clyburn; sisters, Marion Fraser, Annie Langille, Bella Jollimore and Jean Robson; brothers, James, George, Joe and Tommy. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will be in Thorburn Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to the Pictou County VON. www.pkmacdonald.ca.
