Joseph Martin Toney, 66, of Pictou Landing First Nations, Pictou Co., passed away July 1st, 2007, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pictou Landing he was a son of the late Joseph and Bridgett (Martin) Toney. In his early years, Joseph worked in the States, then worked as a Teacher's Aid at Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School for a number of years. He also worked at the Pictou Landing Smoke Shop and was a councillor at the Pictou Landing First Nations Band Office. He is survived by sisters: Susan (Colin) Bernard; Barbara (John) Prosper; Mary Francis; Marguerite (Dennis) Francis; Alice (Kenneth) Francis; Loretta (Vernon) Mills and Donna Toney; brother; Wallace Toney; all of Pictou Landing; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Virginia Bernard; and brother-in-law, Robert Francis. The family will receive visitors at 69 Shore Road, Pictou Landing First Nations, after 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday from Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing, with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Joseph may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
