TENNIER, BARBARA ELSIE July 14, 1926 - May 29, 2004 The death of Barbara Elsie Tennier occurred on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1926 in Newick, East Sussex, England, she moved to Canada as a war bride in October 1944. She was the daughter of the late George and Daisy May (Geal) Wells. She was pre-deceased by her husband Kenneth Lee Tennier of Kenogami, Quebec. Our mother is survived by two daughters, Barbara Tremblay (Ben) of Fredericton and Anne Tennier (Ralph Wilson) of Waterdown, Ontario, one son, Greg, of Vancouver, two granddaughters, Sandra (Tremblay) Dickeson and Kim Tremblay (Philippe Matte) and three great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Kathryn and Jayden, all of Fredericton. She is also survived by sisters Ursula and Doreen; brothers Ken, Fred, Joe, Dennis and Barry, all residing in England, and was pre-deceased by sisters Jean, Edna and Janette, and brothers Jim, Derek and Bill. A dedicated volunteer, our mother worked tirelessly for several community organizations. She was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary for more than 55 years, serving as President of the Auxiliary in Branches #4 (Fredericton) and #120 (Kenogami, Qc). In 1997, she was awarded the Palm Leaf to Meritorious Service Award, which is the highest Legion award that can be granted to members of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a faithful and active member of Christ Church (Parish) Anglican Church and the ACW, organizing and helping out on seniors' activities and using her needlecraft prowess in the craft group. She also worked as a volunteer for the DECH Hospital Auxiliary for more than 12 years and served on the Board of Directors for St. Anne's Lodge. She will be missed by her family and many friends. The family would like to thank the extra-mural nurses, the nurses and staff of DECH 4SW, the nurses and staff of the DECH oncology department, Doctors Adam, Hussain and McKim of Fredericton, Dr. Savoie of Moncton and our mother's many friends who showed such care, compassion and support over the past year. At our mother's request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service in presence of the ashes will be held on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Christ Church (Parish) Church, 245 Westmorland Street, Fredericton, NB with Rev. Elaine Hamilton officiating. A reception will follow the memorial service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, expressions of sympathy made to the National Ovarian Cancer Association, or to a charity of the donor's choice, would be appreciated by the family.
