On December 29, 2007, Lorne Burton “Bert” Hale, 82 years, North Street, Westville, passed away peacefully with his loving wife of 62 years, Kathleen “Kay” (Joudrey) and children by his side: Barry (Sadie), Westville; Sandra Watters (Rae), Salt Springs; Darlene Chaulk (Wayne Smith), Lansdowne; Valerie MacDonald (Albert), Salem. He will also be sadly missed by eight grandchildren: Barry Avery, Tracy Dunn, Wayne and Scott Hale, Marlo Chaulk, Jason and Megan MacDonald and Lisa Chenell; nine great-grandchildren: Ashley, Cody, Brittany, Mitchell, Bradley, Megan, Ethan, Conner and Kameryn. Bert and Kay enjoyed their summers camping. They met many friends along the way. Bert’s passion for life, besides his family was being a member of the Westville Fire Department for 38 years. He spent 17 years being the fire chief until he retired in 1993. Bert was employed with the Drummond Coal Mine in his early years. He retired as a school bus driver for Westville in 1990. Bert was predeceased by brothers, Dan, Cecil, and John James Hale; and sister Eleanor MacLeod. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, January 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Thursday from St. Paul United Church, Westville, with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial will be in St. Bee's Cemetery, Westville. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Dialysis Unit of the Victoria General Hospital or the V.O.N.
