STEPHEN, JOHN H. The death of John Haykel Stephen, age 91, of Quispamsis, husband of 56 years to Clara Veronica (McLaughlin) Stephen, occurred on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at his residence. Born in Devon, NB, he was the son of the late Dominic and Elizabeth (Deep) Stephen. John began his career at the Fredericton Gleaner at the age of 14. This career later lead him to the Daily Mail, the Telegraph Journal and in 1937 he purchased Patterson Printing. In 1943 John founded, opened and operated Service Coin Ltd. until his retirement in 1983, when his two sons took over operation. John ran for Social Credit in the 1960's and belonged to the Typographical Union and Saint John Canadian Lebanon Association. He was a supporter of many charities including the Dr. David Stephen Memorial Foundation from which he received an award for his continuous support. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons John (Debra) and Sarkes (Cy) both of Quispamsis, two daughters Helen French (Tom) of Saint John and Suzanne Buckley (Terry) of Quispamsis, beloved grandchildren Jeffrey, Tiffaney, Stephanie, Helen, Clara and John, two sisters Frances Stephen and Martha Domet both of Toronto, ON, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Sarkes, Frank and Joseph Stephen, sisters Cesema Stephen, Catherine Joseph and Mary Stephen and special family friend Jean Guy Hardy. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506-6347424) with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 11:00 am. Interment will be held in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Dr. David Stephen Memorial Foundation and the Canadian Institute for the Blind (CNIB) or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. www.brenansfh.com
