JOYCE BARKER (FOSTER) WRY

WRY, JOYCE BARKER (FOSTER) Peacefully at Kensington Gardens Health Centre, Toronto on July 19, 2004. Born on January 13, 1916 in Rothesay, New Brunswick, Joyce was the daughter of the late Frederick and Emma Foster of Saint John, NB. Beloved mother of Susanna Wiesner (Charles) of Fredericton and Nicolas (Judy) of Edmonton. Cherished grandmother of Miroslav Wiesner of San Francisco, Tyler Wry (Elaine) and Kristine Aanderson (Chris) of Edmonton. Aunt of John (Christina) Griner and great aunt of Curtis, of Indiana. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Gordon and her sisters Eleanor Foster and Ruth Griner. Joyce had a varied and full work life. She had a lifelong interest in early childhood education, was involved with the University of Toronto Institute of Child Study and worked in several capacities with the Toronto Board of Education. Joyce also was an early believer in Parent Education and among other contributions was associated with the TV series The Family Circle. For a number of years she was employed by the U of T Department of Political Economy and took particular pleasure in the invigorating work environment at the Canadian Political Science Association. Joyce was a loving wife and supported Gordon in his musical career with the Mendelssohn Choir, the Festival Singers of Canada and as conductor of the Massey College Choir. Joyce created a home which was both a haven and a stimulating environment for her family. The family will be gathering at Joyce's favorite location - the family cottage at Duck Cove, Saint John, NB to celebrate her life. Interment will be at Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, NB.
