M. Geraldine "Gerry" Mccarten

NEW GLASGOW – M. Geraldine “Gerry” McCarten, 89, passed away peacefully June 23, 2008, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Louise (Sullivan) and Alfred MacCormack. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. With her late husband, Barney, a bank manager, she lived and made friends in many communities in the Maritimes, retiring back to her home in 1970. She was a past member of the CWL, Abercrombie Golf and Country Club and various volunteer organizations. She loved to play bridge with her close circle of friends and always claimed she was “ashamed” when she came home with the first prize most every bridge night. Suffering from Alzheimer’s the past 15 years, she managed to keep a strong heart. She is survived by her sons, Gerald (Carol), Oshawa, Ont.; Joe (Linda), Quispamsis, NB; daughter, Ann (Mike Adam), New Glasgow; grandchildren: Pat, Craig, Colin, Monica and great-granddaughter, Lilly; sister, June (Al) Legere, New Glasgow. She was predeceased by her husband, Barney; and sister, Doris Dewling. Visitation to be held at R.H Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow on Wednesday, June 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Thursday, June 26, at 11 a.m. with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
