MANUEL "JOE" DACUNHA

DACUNHA, MANUEL "JOE" The passing of Manuel "Joe" daCunha of Hanwell, NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 24, 2004 at the age of 78. Born in Valenca, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Lina (Cunha) Pita. Joe immigrated to Canada in 1955 leaving Portugal on Easter Sunday arriving by boat at Pier 21, Halifax Harbour, five days later. He was a self-employed stone mason by trade and also specialized in dry wall plastering. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 4, Fredericton. Joe loved to hunt, fish and was an avid Bingo player. Survived by his wife Jacqueline (Wallace); five sons, Jose "Joe" (Diane) DaCunha of Fredericton, Joaquim (Ana) of Woodstock, Jaime (Rosa) of Portugal, Antonio of Spain, Paulo (Lisa) and Antonio both of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan; one daughter, Danica Wallace (Paul Crabbe) of Woodstock, NB; several grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, DeOlinda (Manuel) Arujo; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Ilidia daCunha. Resting at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, with visitation on Tuesday evening from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Dunstan's Church on Wednesday at 12 Noon with Monsignor Brian Sheehan officiating. Interment to follow in the Cloverdale Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Basil Hawkins, David T. Williams, Royden Sandwith, Tom Stafford, Ivan Wallace and Hugh Smith.
