STELLARTON?– Michael James MacNeil, 90, of Haven Brook Manor, Riverton, and formerly of Hillside and Stellarton, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late James and Sadie (MacKenzie) MacNeil. Michael lived his early years in Stellarton. He joined the army and served in the Second World War. He then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in various parts of Canada, before moving to Hillside in 1984. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 28, Stellarton. Michael was also a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Trenton. During the War, Michael played in a pipe band and was also a member of the Pictou County Brass and Reed Band. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Taylor) of Valley View Villa; daughter, Coleen (Allister) MacDonald, Hillside; Michael (Samantha), Hayley, Dominic, Caden; Mary Beth (Stefan) Atzema; son, Allison (Lorraine), Stellarton; Craig (Jennifer), Brea, Emily, Katherine, Colin (Alexis) daughter, Jane Gauthier of Trenton, brother, Robert, New Glasgow. He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Bernard and Donald, and sister, Jean. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Monday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday from the Church of the Nazarene, Trenton with Rev. Leon Teal officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Donations in memory of Michael can be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Fund or the Gideon Bible Society.
